Health News:
 
All students entering the 7th grade are required to receive 3 immunizations:
Tdap, MCV4, Varicella Booster
 
Parents will be notified prior to entering 7th grade of the necessary immunizations.  Students will not be able to attend school unless these immunizations have been received.
 
 

Nurse Information:

Gainesville ISD School Nurses are an integral part of the Gainesville ISD Schools. The nurses work with children, families, teachers, administrators, community volunteers, special services staff and the health assistants in each school to meet the diverse needs of children in the Gainesville School District. Nurses foster optimum health so that students can fully participate in the educational programs.

The GISD School Nurses provide the following services:

  • Immunization reviews and referrals
  • Communicable Disease identification and control 
  • Health screening which includes: vision and hearing screening in K, 1, 3, 5, & 7th grade.  Acanthosis Nigricans screening is also conducted in these grades.  Scoliosis screening is performed in 5th & 8th grades.  Random head checks for lice will also be conducted.
  • Referrals for those students with visual, hearing or scoliosis health needs. 
  • Assist families with limited resources to access health care. 
  • Assess children and families with special health care needs and develop school protocols. 
  • Resource person for medical questions. 
  • Offer instruction to the children regarding hygiene, tooth brushing, family life education,
    tobacco prevention and other issues per request. 
  • In-service to staff regarding necessary medical needs for students. 
  • Teach  staff CPR and first aid.
  • Teach bloodborne pathogen classes, and educate staff about new medical policies and
    procedures.
